The Parable of the Fly!

17th of Jumada ath-Thaani

Suuratul Hajj Verse 73

***

***

73. O mankind! A similitude has been coined, so listen to it (carefully): Verily! Those on whom you call besides Allah, cannot create (even) a fly, even though they combine together for the purpose. And if the fly snatched away a thing from them, they would have no power to release it from the fly. So weak are (both) the seeker and the sought.

~~~
Tafsir Ibn Kathir Volume 6, Page 618.
Here Allah points out the insignificance of the idols.
﴿يأَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ضُرِبَ مَثَلٌ﴾
“O mankind! A parable has been made,”
Meaning, a parable of that which is worshipped by those who are ignorant of Allah and who join others as partners with Him.
﴿فَاسْتَمِعُواْ لَهُ﴾
“so listen to it” (pay attention)
﴿إِنَّ الَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ لَن يَخْلُقُواْ ذُبَاباً وَلَوِ اجْتَمَعُواْ لَهُ﴾
“Verily, those on whom you call besides Allah, cannot create a fly, even though they combine together for the purpose.”
Even if all the idols and false gods whom you worship were to come together to create a single fly, they would not be able to do that. `Umarah from Abu Zur`ah from Abu Hurayrah, who said that the Prophet said:
«قَالَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنْ ذَهَبَ يَخْلُقُ كَخَلْقِي، فَلْيَخْلُقُوا ذَرَّةً، فَلْيَخْلُقُوا شَعِيرَة»
“Allah says: “Who does more wrong than one who tries to create (something) like My creation Let them create an ant, let them create a grain of barley.””
Then Allah says:
﴿وَإِن يَسْلُبْهُمُ الذُّبَابُ شَيْئاً لاَّ يَسْتَنقِذُوهُ مِنْهُ﴾
“And if the fly snatches away a thing from them, they will have no power to release it from the fly.”
They are unable to create a single fly and, moreover, they are unable to resist it or take revenge against it if it were to take anything from the good and perfumed thing on which it lands. If they wanted to recover that, they would not be able to, even though the fly is the weakest and most insignificant of Allah’s creatures. Allah says:
﴿ضَعُفَ الطَّالِبُ وَالْمَطْلُوبُ﴾
“So weak are the seeker and the sought.”
Ibn `Abbas said, “The seeker is the idol and the sought is the fly.” This was the view favored by Ibn Jarir, and it is what is apparent from the context. As-Suddi and others said, “The seeker is the worshipper, and the sought is the idol.”
SHIRK!
5th of Rabi’ At-Thanni
Suuratul Nisaa’ Verse 112.
إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ لَا يَغْفِرُ أَن يُشْرَكَ بِهِۦ وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَمَن يُشْرِكْ بِٱللَّـهِ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ ضَلَـٰلًۢا بَعِيدًا﴿١١٦
116. Verily! Allah forgives not (the sin of) setting up partners in worship with Him, but He forgives whom he pleases sins other than that, and whoever sets up partners in worship with Allah, has indeed strayed far away.
***
Tafsir Ibn Kathir Volume 2, Page 582.
Allah said that He,
﴿لاَ يَغْفِرُ أَن يُشْرَكَ بِهِ﴾
“forgives not that partners should be set up with Him (in worship)”
Meaning, He does not forgive a servant if he meets Him while he is associating partners with Him,
﴿وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَلِكَ﴾
“but He forgives except that (of sins)”
﴿لِمَن يَشَآءُ﴾
“to whom He wills (of His servants)”
Imam Ahmad recorded that Abu Dharr said that the Messenger of Allah said,
«إِنَّ اللهَ يَقُولُ: يَا عَبْدِي مَا عَبَدْتَنِي وَرَجَوْتَنِي، فَإِنِّي غَافِرٌ لَكَ عَلى مَا كَانَ فِيكَ، يَا عَبْدِي إِنَّكَ إِنْ لَقِيتَنِي بِقُرَابِ الْأَرْضِ خَطِيئَةً مَا لَمْ تُشْرِكْ بِي، لَقِيتُكَ بِقُرَابِهَا مَغْفِرَة»
Allah said, “O My servant! As long as you worship and beg Me, I will forgive you, no matter your shortcomings. O My servant! If you meet Me with the earth’s fill of sin, yet you do not associate any partners with Me, I will meet you with its fill of forgiveness.”
Allah orders that He be worshipped Alone without partners, because He Alone is the Creator and Sustainer Who sends His favors and bounties on His creation in all situations and instances. Therefore He deserves to be singled out, without associating anything or anyone from His creation with Him in worship. Indeed, the Prophet said to Mu`adh,
«أَتَدْرِي مَا حَقُّ اللهِ عَلَى الْعِبَادِ؟»
“Do you know what Allah’s right on His servants is?” Mu`adh replied, “Allah and His Messenger know better.”
He said,
«أنْ يَعْبُدُوهُ وَلَا يُشْرِكُوا بِهِ شَيْئًا»
“That they should worship Him and should not worship any others with Him”.
The Prophet then said,
«أَتَدْرِي مَا حَقُّ الْعِبَادِ عَلَى اللهِ إِذَا فَعَلُوا ذَلِكَ؟ أَنْ لَا يُعَذِّبَهُم»
“Do you know what the right of the servants on Allah is if they do this?
He should not punish them.”
Countless Favors!!!
14th of Rabi’ Al-Awwal
Suuratul – Nahl Verse 18
وَإِن تَعُدُّوا۟ نِعْمَةَ ٱللَّـهِ لَا تُحْصُوهَآ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ ﴿١٨
18. And if you would count the graces of Allah, never could you be able to count them. Truly! Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
***
Tafsir Ibn Kathir Volume 5.
Then Allah tells us of His greatness, and that worship should be directed to Him alone, not to any of the idols which do not create but are rather themselves created. Thus He says
﴿أَفَمَن يَخْلُقُ كَمَن لاَّ يَخْلُقُ أَفَلا تَذَكَّرُونَ ﴾
“Is then He, Who creates, the same as one who does not create, Will you not then reflect?”
Then He shows His servants some of the many blessings He granted for them, and the many kinds of things that He has done for them.
He says;
﴿وَإِن تَعُدُّواْ نِعْمَةَ اللَّهِ لاَ تُحْصُوهَآ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ ﴾
“And if you would try to count the favors of Allah, you would never be able to count them. Truly, Allah is Forgiving, Most Merciful”
Meaning that He pardons and forgives them. If He were to ask you to thank Him for all of His blessings, you would not be able to do so, and if He were to command you to do so, you would be incapable of it. If He punishes you, He is never unjust in His punishment, but He is Forgiving and Most Merciful, He forgives much and rewards for little. Ibn Jarir said: “It means that Allah is Forgiving when you fail to thank Him properly, if you repent and turn to Him in obedience, and strive to do that which pleases Him. He is Merciful to you and does not punish you if you turn to Him and repent.”
The Greatest Bliss!!!
10th of Rabi Al-Awwal
Suuratul Tawbah Verse 72
وَعَدَ ٱللَّـهُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ جَنَّـٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا وَمَسَـٰكِنَ طَيِّبَةً فِى جَنَّـٰتِ عَدْنٍ ۚ وَرِضْوَٰنٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّـهِ أَكْبَرُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ ﴿٧٢
72. Allah has promised to the believers -men and women, – Gardens under which rivers flow to dwell therein forever, and beautiful mansions in Gardens of ‘Adn (Eden Paradise). But the greatest bliss is the Good Pleasure of Allah. That is the supreme success.
***
Tafsir Ibn Kathir
Allah describes the joys and eternal delight He has prepared for the believers, men and women in,
﴿جَنَّـتٌ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا الاٌّنْهَـرُ خَـلِدِينَ فِيهَا﴾
Gardens under which rivers flow to dwell therein forever (for eternity),
﴿وَمَسَـكِنَ طَيِّبَةً﴾
and beautiful mansions,
built beautifully in good surroundings. In the Two Sahihs, it is recorded that Abu Musa, `Abdullah bin Qays Al-Ash`ari  narrated that the Messenger of Allah said,
«إِنَّ لِلْمُؤْمِنِ فِي الْجَنَّةِ لَخَيْمَةً مِنْ لُؤْلُؤَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ مُجَوَّفَةٍ، طُولُهَا سِتُّونَ مِيلًا فِي السَّمَاءِ لِلْمُؤْمِنِ فِيهَا أَهْلُونَ يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ لَا يَرَى بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا»
For the believer in Paradise there is a tent like a hollow pearl which is sixty miles high in the sky, and in the tent the believer will have (so large) a family that he visits them all and some of them would not be able to see the others.
Allah said next,
﴿وَرِضْوَنٌ مِّنَ اللَّهِ أَكْبَرُ﴾
But the greatest bliss is the good pleasure of Allah
Meaning, Allah’s pleasure is more grand, greater and better than the delight the believers will be enjoying (in Paradise). Imam Malik narrated, that Zayd bin Aslam said that `Ata’ bin Yasar said that Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri said that the Messenger of Allah said,
«إِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَقُولُ لِأَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ: يَا أَهْلَ الْجَنَّةِ فَيَقُولُونَ: لَبَّيْكَ رَبَّنَا وَسَعْدَيْكَ وَالْخَيْرُ فِي يَدَيْكَ. فَيَقُولُ: هَلْ رَضِيتُمْ؟ فَيَقُولُونَ: وَمَا لَنَا لَا نَرْضَى يَا رَبِّ وَقَدْ أَعْطَيْتَنَا مَا لَمْ تُعْطِ أَحَدًا مِنْ خَلْقِكَ، فَيَقُولُ: أَلَا أُعْطِيكُمْ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ؟ فَيَقُولُونَ: يَا رَبِّ وَأَيُّ شَيْءٍ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ؟ فَيَقُولُ: أُحِلُّ عَلَيْكُمْ رِضْوَانِي فَلَا أَسْخَطُ عَلَيْكُمْ بَعْدَهُ أَبَدًا»
Allah, the Exalted and Ever High, will say to the people of Paradise, `O residents of Paradise!’ They will say, `Labbayka (here we are!), our Lord, and Sa`dayk (we are happy at your service!) and all the good is in Your Hand.’ He will ask them, `Are you pleased’
They will say, `Why would not we be pleased, O Lord, while You have given us what You have not given any other of your creation’
He will say, `Should I give you what is better than all this’
They will say, `O Lord! What is better than all this’ He will say, `I will grant you My pleasure and will never afterwards be angry with you.’ The Two Sahihs collected the Hadith of Malik.
The Truthful’s Profit!
7th of Rabi’ Al-Awwal
Suuratul Maidah Verse 119.
قَالَ ٱللَّـهُ هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ يَنفَعُ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ صِدْقُهُمْ ۚ لَهُمْ جَنَّـٰتٌ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًا ۚ رَّضِىَ ٱللَّـهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوا۟ عَنْهُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ﴿١١٩
119. Allah will say: “This is a Day on which the truthful will profit from their truth: theirs are Gardens under which rivers flow – they shall abide therein forever. Allah is pleased with them and they with Him. That is the great success (Paradise).
***
Tafsir Ibn Kathir Volume 3, Page 307.
Allah answers His servant and Messenger `Isa, son of Maryam when `Isa refers their end to the will of his Lord,
﴿هَـذَا يَوْمُ يَنفَعُ الصَّـدِقِينَ صِدْقُهُمْ﴾
This is a Day on which the truthful will profit from their truth.
Ad-Dahhak said that Ibn `Abbas commented, “This is the Day when Tawhid will benefit those who believed in it.”
﴿لَهُمْ جَنَّـتٌ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا الاٌّنْهَـرُ خَـلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَداً﴾
Theirs are Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise) — they shall abide therein forever.
And they will never be removed from it,
﴿رِّضِىَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُواْ عَنْهُ﴾
Allah is pleased with them and they with Him.
 Allah’s statement,
﴿ذلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ﴾
That is the great success.
Means this is the great success, other than which there is no greater success.
The Best Names belong To HIM!
Suuratul – Hashr Verses 23 and 24
 هُوَ ٱللَّـهُ ٱلَّذِى لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْقُدُّوسُ ٱلسَّلَـٰمُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُ ٱلْمُهَيْمِنُ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْجَبَّارُ ٱلْمُتَكَبِّرُ ۚ سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّـهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ ﴿٢٣
هُوَ ٱللَّـهُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُ ٱلْبَارِئُ ٱلْمُصَوِّرُ ۖلَهُ ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ يُسَبِّحُ لَهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ ﴿٢٤
23. He is Allah than Whom there is La ilaha illa Huwa the King, the Holy, the One Free from all defects, the Giver of security, the Watcher over His creatures, the All-Mighty, the Compeller, the Supreme. Glory be to Allah! above all that they associate as partners with Him.
24. He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor of all things, the Bestower of forms. To Him belong the Best Names . All that is in the heavens and the earth glorify Him. And He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
Tafsir Ibn Kathir Volume 9, Page 577.
Allah the Exalted said,
﴿هُوَ اللَّهُ الَّذِى لاَ إِلَـهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ الْمَلِكُ﴾
He is Allah, beside Whom La ilaha illa Huwa, Al-Malik.
Al-Malik, meaning “The Owner and King of all things,” Who has full power over them without resistance or hindrance. Allah’s statement,
﴿الْقُدُّوسُ﴾
Al-Quddus,
meaning “The Pure,” according to Wahb bin Munabbih, while Mujahid and Qatadah said that Al-Quddus means “The Blessed.” Ibn Jurayj said that Al-Quddus means “He Whom the honorable angels glorify.”
﴿السَّلَـمُ﴾
As-Salam,
meaning “Free from any defects or shortcomings that lessen or decrease His perfect attributes and actions.” Allah’s statement,
﴿الْمُؤْمِنُ﴾
Al-Mu’min,
means “Who has granted safety to His servants by promising that He will never be unjust to them, ” according to Ad-Dahhak who reported it from Ibn `Abbas. Qatadah said that Al-Mu’min means that “Allah affirms that His statements are true,” while Ibn Zayd said that it means, “He attested to His faithful servants’ having faith in Him.” Allah’s statement,
﴿الْمُهَيْمِنُ﴾
Al-Muhaymin,
means, according to Ibn `Abbas and others, “The Witness for His servants actions,” that is, the Ever-Watcher over them.
 Allah said
﴿الْعَزِيزُ﴾
Al-`Aziz,
meaning that “He is the Almighty, Dominant over all things.” Therefore, His majesty is never violated, due to His might, greatness, irresistible power and pride. Allah said;
﴿الْجَبَّارُ الْمُتَكَبِّرُ﴾
Al-Jabbar, Al-Mutakabbir,
meaning “The Only One worthy of being the Compeller and Supreme.”  Allah the Exalted said,
﴿سُبْحَـنَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ﴾
Glory be to Allah! (High is He) above all that they associate as partners with Him.
﴿هُوَ اللَّهُ الْخَـلِقُ الْبَارِىءُ الْمُصَوِّرُ﴾
He is Allah, Al-Khaliq, Al-Bari, Al-Musawwir.
Al-Khaliq refers to measuring and proportioning, Al-Bari refers to inventing and bringing into existence what He has created and measured. Surely, none except Allah is able to measure, bring forth and create whatever He wills to come to existence. Allah’s statement, means, if Allah wills something, He merely says to it “be” and it comes to existence in the form that He wills and the shape He chooses.
Ar-Rabb: The Lord!
Suuratul – Maryam Verse 65.
رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فَٱعْبُدْهُ وَٱصْطَبِرْ لِعِبَـٰدَتِهِۦ ۚ هَلْ تَعْلَمُ لَهُۥ سَمِيًّا ﴿٦٥
65. Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, so worship Him (Alone) and be constant and patient in His worship. Do you know of any who is similar to Him? [There is nothing like unto Him].
Tafsir Ibn Kathir
Ar-Rabb is the owner who has full authority over his property. Ar-Rabb, linguistically means, the master or the one who has the authority to lead. All of these meanings are correct for Allah. When it is alone, the word Rabb is used only for Allah. As for other than Allah, it can be used to say Rabb Ad-Dar, the master of such and such object. Further, it was reported that Ar-Rabb is Allah’s Greatest Name.
Allah said,
﴿رَّبُّ السَّمَـوَتِ وَالاٌّرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا﴾
Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them,
He created all of that, He is the Disposer of its affairs, He is the Legislator over it and He is in absolute control of it, having no one to oppose His decisions.
﴿فَاعْبُدْهُ وَاصْطَبِرْ لِعِبَادَتِهِ هَلْ تَعْلَمُ لَهُ سَمِيّاً﴾
So worship Him and abide patiently in his worship. Do you know of any who is similar to Him?
`Ali bin Abi Talhah related that Ibn `Abbas said that this means, “Do you know any comparison or something similar to the Lord”.  Mujahid, Sa`id bin Jubayr, Qatadah, Ibn Jurayj and others all said the same. `Ikrimah related that Ibn `Abbas said, “There is no one named Ar-Rahman (the Most Beneficent) other than Him, Blessed and Exalted is He. Most Holy is His Name.”
Al-‘Alim: He knows it All!
Suuratul – Yusuf Verse 76.
فَبَدَأَ بِأَوْعِيَتِهِمْ قَبْلَ وِعَآءِ أَخِيهِ ثُمَّ ٱسْتَخْرَجَهَا مِن وِعَآءِ أَخِيهِ ۚكَذَٰلِكَ كِدْنَا لِيُوسُفَ ۖ مَا كَانَ لِيَأْخُذَ أَخَاهُ فِى دِينِ ٱلْمَلِكِ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّـهُ ۚ نَرْفَعُ دَرَجَـٰتٍ مَّن نَّشَآءُ ۗ وَفَوْقَ كُلِّ ذِى عِلْمٍ عَلِيمٌ ﴿٧٦
76. So he [Yusuf (Joseph)] began (the search) in their bags before the bag of his brother. Then he brought it out of his brother’s bag. Thus did We plan for Yusuf (Joseph). He could not take his brother by the law of the king (as a slave), except that Allah willed it. (So Allah made the brothers to bind themselves with their way of “punishment, i.e. enslaving of a thief.”) We raise to degrees whom We please, but over all those endowed with knowledge is the All-Knowing (Allah).
Tafsir Ibn Kathir
Allah said next,
﴿وَفَوْقَ كُلِّ ذِى عِلْمٍ عَلِيمٌ﴾
but over all those endowed with knowledge is the All-Knowing.
Al-Hasan commented, “There is no knowledgeable person, but there is another person with more knowledge until it ends at Allah the Exalted and Most Honored. In addition, `Abdur-Razzaq recorded that Sa`id bin Jubayr said, “We were with Ibn `Abbas when he narrated an amazing Hadith. A man in the audience said, `All praise is to Allah! There is an all-knowing above every person endowed with knowledge.’ Ibn `Abbas responded, `Worse it is that which you said! Allah is the All-Knowing and His knowledge is above the knowledge of every knowledgeable person.’ Simak narrated that `Ikrimah said that Ibn `Abbas said about Allah’s statement,
﴿وَفَوْقَ كُلِّ ذِى عِلْمٍ عَلِيمٌ﴾
but over all those endowed with knowledge is the All-Knowing (Allah)
“This person has more knowledge than that person, and Allah is above all knowledgeable persons.” Similar was narrated from `Ikrimah. Qatadah said, “Over every person endowed with knowledge is a more knowledgeable person until all knowledge ends with Allah. Verily, knowledge started from Allah, and from Him the scholars learn, and to Him all knowledge returns.” `Abdullah bin Mas`ud read the Ayah this way, (وَفَوْقَ كُلِّ عَالِمٍ عَلِيمٌ) “And above every scholar, is the All-Knower (Allah).”
Al-Ghaniyy: The (Truly) Rich!
Suuratul An’aam Verse 133
وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْغَنِىُّ ذُو ٱلرَّحْمَةِ ۚ إِن يَشَأْ يُذْهِبْكُمْ وَيَسْتَخْلِفْ مِنۢ بَعْدِكُم مَّا يَشَآءُ كَمَآ أَنشَأَكُم مِّن ذُرِّيَّةِ قَوْمٍ ءَاخَرِينَ ﴿١٣٣
133. And your Lord is Rich (Free of all wants), full of Mercy, if He will, He can destroy you, and in your place make whom He will as your successors, as He raised you from the seed of other people.
Tafsir Ibn Kathir Volume 3, Page 475.
Allah said,
﴿وَرَبُّكَ﴾
And your Lord…, (O Muhammad)
﴿الْغَنِىُّ﴾
is Al-Ghani
Rich, free from needing His creatures in any way or form, while they stand in need of Him in all situations,
﴿ذُو الرَّحْمَةِ﴾
full of mercy;
towards creation. Allah said in another Ayah (2:143),
﴿إِنَّ اللَّهَ بِالنَّاسِ لَرَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ﴾
(Tuly, Allah is full of kindness, the Most Merciful towards mankind.
﴿إِن يَشَأْ يُذْهِبْكُمْ﴾
if He wills, He can destroy you. (if you defy His commandments),
﴿وَيَسْتَخْلِفْ مِن بَعْدِكُم مَّا يَشَآءُ﴾
And in your place make whom He wills as your successors, (who behave obediently),
﴿كَمَآ أَنشَأَكُمْ مِّن ذُرِّيَّةِ قَوْمٍ ءَاخَرِينَ﴾
As He raised you from the seed of other people.
and surely, He is able to do this, and it is easy for Him. And just as Allah has destroyed the earlier nations and brought their successors, He is able to do away with these generations and bring other people in their place. Allah has also said (4:133);
﴿إِن يَشَأْ يُذْهِبْكُمْ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ وَيَأْتِ بِـاخَرِينَ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ عَلَى ذلِكَ قَدِيراً ﴾
If He wills, He can take you away, O people, and bring others. And Allah is Ever Capable over that.
﴿يأَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَنتُمُ الْفُقَرَآءُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ هُوَ الْغَنِىُّ الْحَمِيدُ – إِن يَشَأْ يُذْهِبْكُـمْ وَيَأْتِ بِخَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ وَمَا ذَلِكَ عَلَى اللَّهِ بِعَزِيزٍ ﴾
O mankind! It is you who stand in need of Allah. But Allah is Rich (free of all needs), Worthy of all praise. If He willed, He could destroy you and bring about a new creation. And that is not hard for Allah. (35:15-17)
Al-‘Afuww: Oft-Pardoning!
Suuratun – Nisaa’ Verse 149.
إِن تُبْدُوا۟ خَيْرًا أَوْ تُخْفُوهُ أَوْ تَعْفُوا۟ عَن سُوٓءٍ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ كَانَ عَفُوًّا قَدِيرًا ﴿١٤٩
149. Whether you (mankind) disclose (by good words of thanks) a good deed (done to you in the form of a favour by someone), or conceal it, or pardon an evil, … verily, Allah is Ever Oft-Pardoning, All-Powerful.
Tafsir Ibn Kathir Volume 3, Page 16.
Allah said,
﴿إِن تُبْدُواْ خَيْراً أَوْ تُخْفُوهْ أَوْ تَعْفُواْ عَن سُوءٍ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَفُوّاً قَدِيراً ﴾
(Whether you disclose a good deed, or conceal it, or pardon an evil; verily, Allah is Ever Pardoning, All-Powerful)
﴿فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَفُوّاً قَدِيراً﴾
(Verily, Allah is Ever Pardoning, All-Powerful)
It was reported that some of the angels who carry Allah’s Throne praise Him saying, “All praise is due to You for Your forbearing even though You have perfect knowledge (in all evil committed).” Some of them supplicate, “All praise is due to You for Your forgiving even though You have perfect ability (to punish).”
An authentic Hadith states,
«مَا نَقَصَ مَالٌ مِنْ صَدَقَةٍ، وَلَا زَادَ اللهُ عَبْدًا بِعَفْوٍ إِلَّا عِزًّا، وَمَنْ تَوَاضَعَ للهِ رَفَعَهُ الله»
(No charity shall ever decrease wealth, and Allah will only increase the honor of a servant who pardons, and he who is humble for Allah’s sake, then Allah will elevate his grade.)
